Seventh Stage Productions

Seventh Stage is a professional feminist theatre company founded in 2006. Seventh Stage develops and produces socially and politically conscious, thought-provoking and entertaining works by way of Canadian premieres of international work and/or international premieres of Canadian work.

Seventh Stage places particular importance on telling stories by women, about women and for everyone. We also generate leadership opportunities for emerging and under-represented female artists through our productions, mentorship programs, community and education outreach and fundraising events.

feminist theatre

When Seventh Stage was founded in 2006, feminism was not cool for young women.

But myself, Kelly Straughan, Rosa Laborde and Kelsey Matheson noticed the discrepancy and discrimination in our industry. Having come across many other driven and talented female artists who were struggling and under represented, they wanted a company that would provide more meaningful leadership opportunities for women in theatre.

Over 12 years we provided 100s of opportunities for women in professional theatre, as actors, directors, producers, writers and choreographers, effectively tilting the pendulum - even just a little.

my history

After founding the company, I ran the business end of Seventh Stage for 12 years in the role of Artistic Producer. Highlights include:

- Gained charitable status in 2008 and raised $500,000 over the course of a decade.

- Produced & presented 7 full-scale theatre productions and 5 workshop productions in Toronto.

- Seventh Stage was nominated for 3 Dora Awards, received outstanding reviews, and made some magic.

- Mentored dozens of incredibly talented female artists through our paid internship program.

I currently sit on the Board of Directors. News of incoming Artistic Director TBA.
